PEACE
We would welcome peace as well, but with a multitude of animals running astray, dying on Highways, suffering from starvation and parasites, peace is far away. And each time hope knocks on the door, it turns out to be a false alarm. Such as, when a man called several times and wanted to help us financially and physically. He truly meant it and the offer came from the heart. We were excited, because this does not happen too often, at least not to us! It turned out, that he had many problems himself, including 21 dogs that had been dumped on him, most of them Pit Bulls, beautiful, gentle animals, some of them in the house, some of them on chains. They all had come to his newly acquired home, hungry, thirsty, crippled and lost. And instead of him helping us, they were all spayed and neutered. A blue Heeler had to have a giant tumor removed, prior to the spaying. For 2 puppies we came too late. They both died of Parvo. As soon as he can find the time and has the finances, he will build pens for all the dogs.
Chocolate LAB
On the way to the clinic, we picked up a young, mixed F Chocolate Lab at a gas station. The dog was lying by the door. She was skinny and tired. I asked the lady behind the counter if she knew who the dog belonged to. Where we live it is a common sight to see a dog by a country store, waiting for it's master. The woman shook her head, but did not seem concerned at all. "She's been hanging around here for a couple of days now." she answered and continued with her work. My next question was: "Did you feed and water her?" She shrugged her shoulders and shook her head, saying "No!" Her non-caring attitude really ticked me off. I shoved the treats I had picked out for our 80 mile trip back at her, told her I would buy my gas somewhere else and left. We took the dog with us, had her spayed and tested for heartworm. It tested positive and she was treated immediately. Monika, as we called her is a beautiful dog, about 9 month of age and enjoys the company of 3 more dogs that arrived not too long ago.
